What to Expect

Although this describes "A Typical Day", we customize every trip and are happy to work with you to ensure that your needs and expectations are met. Please feel free to call, visit or e-mail with questions about what we can do for you.
A Typical Day
You will get a phone call from your guide 24-48 hours before your trip. Guides normally meet clients in the morning at the shop or near the fishing location. Clients need to sign waivers online through their confirmation email in the "Guest Reservation Center" link, if we are providing any gear please enter your height, weight and regular shoe size through the link so the guide can bring the appropriate sized gear. Guests can purchase a fishing license online and do not need to print them, a screenshot of the license is acceptable. You are more than welcome to come by our shop to check things out or chat, but it is not neccessary.

Travel to the fishing destination. Destinations are chosen by the guide based on fishability and weather conditions, as well as on the client’s stream type preference. Travel time is typically 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. Client's are encouraged to provide their own transportation, however, transporation can be provided with prior arrangements, let us know at the time of booking. The guide will bring fishing equipment, all supplies, and first aid kit.

Prepare to fish. The guide will get all the equipment ready for the day while clients put on their fishing gear. A casting lesson will follow if necessary.

Fish! Your guide will provide whatever fishing supplies and attention you should need to enjoy your fishing day. Beginners will learn basic skills and how to “read” water to locate fish, abilities necessary to become a successful fly fisher.

Eat lunch (full days only). Bottled water will be provided by your guide, you are responsible for your own lunch. A picnic lunch by the water is one of the most relaxing parts of a fly fishing excursion. Lunch breaks are not typically taken on half-day trips.
Fish more! Your guide can provide more advanced fly fishing instruction if you wish, or simply direct you to the “fishy” spots. Your guide is an experienced outdoor professional who can point out other features of interest, giving you the opportunity for a personalized introduction to New Mexico’s diverse environments.
Return home tired, with some great experiences and stories to share. At the end of the day your guide will retrieve all of your borrowed gear and return it to the shop themselves so that you are free to return to town at your own pace or prepare for the evenings activities.
Payment for the day is usually processed at High Desert Angler at the beginning of the day as soon as personnel are certain that your trip is underway. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express.
